Long Live Patsy Cline

On this date in history (1963) Patsy Cline died in a plane crash at the age of 30. The picture here makes her look more like 50. Must be the hair. And dig those appliqued sixteenth notes.

If you were to ask me to name my least favorite music genre, the one I despised, absolutely detested with every fiber, I would say Country and Western, but there is something about that Patsy Cline. I can't help but love her and her voice than could glide over notes like honey. I have secretly loved her for years.

My other yankee sister and I visit our southern sisters and mother every Christmas, and a few years ago during one of those visits, we all went to a barbecue place (when visiting the south, you must visit an authentic barbecue place--not a chain, but a local joint with crud on the floor and misspelled signs on the walls). My yankee sister and I started singing a Patsy Cline number because it just seemed right. Our wonderful southern gentleman brother-in-law, loaded down with quarters, quietly sauntered over to the juke box and chose every single Patsy Cline record in the stack. We were in heaven with the melting music and the barbecue and the sweet tea.

Here is one of her best--Crazy. Enjoy. As for me, I will be singing it all day long.

Arrgghhh! I just lost a comment. It was very rambly so I won't try to reproduce it.

Anyway, I don't know much about Patsy Cline, so I wasn't aware that she died so young. How tragic.

That girl sure could sing.
Modern Nashville has ruined Country Music, but back in the fifties it was pure and beautiful, like Patsy's voice.
Thanks, Robyn.

Good ole Patsy. This is a nice 00ps I mean good post Robyn. I like that song "crazy" It always makes me feel like a southerner for the few minutes it's playing.

ADORE crazy. Don't you think though years ago people DID look older? See old films of young people getting married, they look around 50-60 based on their dress, the way they carried themselves and of course the behaviour.

Lynn that's a good point. I have photos of relatives when they were like 16 years old and in relavance to today, they would look like 40

people did look older because they did age faster and died younger. I see some patients at the hospital I work for that are 40 but look 60. It's all about life style and genes I guess.

Im so glad you like Patsy Cline- as I do. But I dont see how anyone could hate Country and Western Music. Its such a big Genre, and its not just one thing with so many talented artists.
